Beautiful reflection on creative practice as both the lighthouse and the ship. I couldn't help but think of play (the ultimate creative act as I see it) and how much we all need it. I'm at my best as a parent and person when I can tap into play and improvisation.
Ryan, I couldn't agree more with your assessment of how creativity can help. And that's why I got so excited about the Fall of Freedom event on November 21st and 22nd, which brings together creatives of all kinds to celebrate art and democracy: https://www.falloffreedom.com/.
For my part, I am creating a digital exhibit in which people can display their art, music, writing, etc. My husband and I are working on the Web site now and inviting people to participate. We're having to throw this together pretty quickly but we're hoping to keep it going and expand it after the event. I invite you and your followers to participate. All you have to do is upload an image of your art work or a text version of your poem or first book chapter and blurb or an audio or video clip of your music. We will be deciding on our domain name today and hope to have a rudimentary site ready for testing next week. The work does not have to have anything to do with democracy. Our approach is that creativity is an act of resistance in itself, so any creative work qualifies. I am very excited about this project and hope you and your community are interested!
I would like to ride along on this journey. For me..perhaps the first time admitting creative urges …not having any real skill set …yet not really concerned. Just want to move in a direction that feels better. I would like to pick up some tools along the way. Perhaps you can help! Thanks
Looking forward to your discussions on discipline and creative practice. Thank you

Loved your revelation with the kiddos.
